If you're interested in nature and want to mingle with other nature lovers, the Grub Club at Koreshan State Park is the event for you. Koreshan invites you to bring your lunch and learn about fascinating Florida wildlife with Florida master naturalist, Pam Jones-Morton. There are two upcoming Grub Club events, on Aug. 28 and Sept. 18. Both are from noon until 1 p.m.

"We wanted to have a special event over the summer, that's aimed towards the locals and the people who visit during the off-season," said Ruth Fletcher, park services specialist at Koreshan. "During season we have a lot of programs, but we have very few during the Summer. We wanted to create a unique and hands-on experience. It's much more hands-on than our nature talks that occur during season."

The Aug. 28 Grub Club will be all about Florida's gopher tortoises, an endangered species. The discussion will talk about their behaviors, anatomy and of course, fun facts. The naturalist will take attendees around the settlement and show them gopher tortoise burrows and explain how to identify them.

On Sept. 18, Grub Club attendees will learn all about native butterflies. The master naturalist will explain the difference between moths and butterflies, talk about butterfly development, plants that support butterflies, netting techniques, and much more.

Grub Club sessions are free with park entry. Park entry costs are $5 per vehicle with multiple passengers, $4 per single-occupant vehicle, and $2 for pedestrians and bicyclists. The talks will be held at the picnic pavilion.

Koreshan State Park is at 3800 Corkscrew Rd., Estero.
