Orange shirts dotted Estero Island Saturday morning as volunteers combed the sand and dunes for trash.

More than 100 people helped clean the beach for the Great American Cleanup, an effort organized by Keep Lee County Beautiful to celebrate Earth Day.

The Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation facilitated the cleanup at Beach Elementary School, organizing the cleaning areas and handing out supplies, snacks and shirts. At the end, members tallied some of the more unusual items found: a cell phone, a kite, a saw blade and a bouncy ball.
