Keep Lee County Beautiful hosts coastal clean-up

September 7, 2016

If you'd like to help keep the sands clean, Keep Lee County Beautiful will host a coastal clean up Saturday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Marine life can be endangered from fishing lines, nets and 6-pack plastic rings, and can mistake trash for food, such as styrofoam and cigarette butts. In the past five years' worth of clean-ups, Keep Lee County Beautiful's coastal cleanup program has removed 90,000 pounds of trash from local waterways with the help of more than 11,000 volunteers, according to the organization's website, klcb.org.

To get involved, email Trish Fancher at trish@klcb.org or register online.
