Loving wife, mother, grandmother
Estel T. Peterson, 95, of Fort Myers, died Monday, July 21, 2014 at North Collier Hospital. A former blueberry farmer in Grand Haven, Mich., she and her husband retired to Fort Myers Beach, in 1969. Following her husband's death in 1993, she moved to Fort Myers to be closer to her daughters and granddaughters.
Estel was born March 17, 1919, in Stone County, Ark., the daughter of the late Edwin and Ollie (nee May) Ticer. She was a former Girl Scout Leader, a member of The Fort Myers Beach Homemakers Club, and an avid sports fan who enjoyed cheering for the University of Florida Gators, the Tampa Bay Rays and the Florida Everblades. She could also be seen supporting her granddaughters' sports teams since they were 4 years old.
Estel is survived by her loving daughters, Karen Peterson of Fort Myers; Kathy (Jim) Mielke of Fort Myers; and cherished granddaughters, Rachel and Stacey Mielke. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold S. Peterson; and brothers, Forrest, Leo, Joe and Virgil.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Sunday, Aug. 10 at 4 p.m., at Estero Bay Baptist Church, 17051 Jean St., Fort Myers. She has been laid to rest beside her husband at Lee Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Estel's name may be made to LCDAS Animal Care Trust Fund at 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers.
