To the editor:
It brings me great joy in inviting you to celebrate with us our four year anniversary on the second Sunday in August. It amazes me that four years ago on Aug. 7, we had our first worship service as the new parish of St. Raphael's by the Sea Anglican Church. Your faithfulness in supporting this new parish has helped us to reach many for the gospel of Christ.
This past year has seen some changes both in our staff and in our membership. At the beginning of the year, our parish secretary, Leeanna Parsons, stepped down due to an increase in hours at her full time job. Although it was sad to have her no longer on our staff, we were delighted to welcome our new parish secretary, Lisa DeJesus, in February. Lisa has already proven herself to be a vital asset of our parish and we are so blessed to have her with us.
Then in June, Jim Marcrum retired as our A/V guy. Jim's ministry has been a significant part of our worship services. Although he is no longer the A/V guy, Jim continues to set up our services on PowerPoint and edit the music videos for us. Thankfully, Randy Amos, A.J. Bassett's nephew agreed to be our new A/V guy for our worship services. This transition has worked out beautifully, especially with Randy having helped fill in for Jim in the past. Randy also helps our Altar Guild, along with his brother Keith, in setting up our worship services. This has truly been an answer to prayer, especially for those of us who remain here during the non-season.
We have also had some of our members move their membership. For example, Don and Neva Cole, who moved back to their home state of Washington due to health reasons. Both Don and Neva blessed us many a Sunday with their readings of the lessons. After the departure of the Coles, Jim Marcrum agreed to read the lessons for us for which we are deeply grateful. Although, I am sure he will be thrilled to have the rest of the lay readers return sooner rather than later. The Lord has also seen fit to bring us new members this past year and we are looking forward to more joining us in the future.
Going forward for Christ is what we are hoping to do according to our mission statement, "To Know Christ and to Make Christ Known." Yet, we cannot do this without your continued support for our parish. As has become our annual anniversary tradition, we are asking you to give a thanks offering to the Lord for St. Raphael's by the Sea Anglican Church. We will be celebrating our Fourth Anniversary with a special cake following the Sunday worship service and hope that you will be able to join us. Since this is our annual drive to help carry on the ministry at St. Raphael's by the Sea, we ask that you give as generously as you can.
Thank you in advance for your generosity. Remember although we are small in number, together we are mighty in the Lord.
