A pig roast on Saturday in Cape Coral will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Anthony's on the Blvd and the Hanger Orthopedic Group will host an MDA Pig Roast Fundraiser from noon to midnight at 1303 S. Del Prado Blvd. It will feature live entertainment, raffles and drawings.

"It's a fun day, and it's an inexpensive day," Tony Serrago, the owner of Anthony's, said.

Tickets cost $10 per person and include a pig roast dinner with two sides. On the back of each ticket there is also a coupon for a free all-you-can-eat breakfast at the restaurant for its Sunday buffet.

"There's a raffle ticket on each ticket also," he said.

With about a dozen door prizes available, ticket holders have a chance to take home a $25 gift certificate to Anthony's, passes on the Fort Myers Princess, a womans handbag or clay serving tray from local vendors, CDs of area entertainers, a cooler from Suncoast Beverage Sales and more.

"You dont have to be present to win," Serrago said.

There are 50/50 drawings also planned.

DJ Tommy Tom will take the stage from noon to 4 p.m.

"He's going to host the ceremonies," he said.

Afterward, the SunDance Duo will perform from 4 to 6 p.m.

"They do everything from the '60s on up," Serrago said.

The Greg Miller Band will wrap up the day from 7 to 11 p.m.

"They do mostly Motown dance music," he said.

Drink specials throughout the fundraiser include $1 drafts and $1 Jell-O shots.

"It's also Kentucky Derby day," Serrago said, adding that there will be a mint julep special.

A Kentucky Derby hat contest will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the inside lounge.

There are 500 tickets available for the fundraiser, but people can still pay to eat at the event. Advance tickets can be purchased at Anthony's on the Blvd, Hanger and the MDA office in Fort Myers.

"We're expecting anywhere between 400 to 700 people throughout the day," he said.

"The rain will put a damper on it if it does rain," Serrago said.

While Anthony's has hosted fundraisers for the MDA before, it is the first time that it is a pig roast.

"We've hosted like two lockups for them in past, so I''e helped the charity out before," he said.

Serrago noted that the pig roasts are popular and work well as a fundraiser.

"It's something that we do very well, and it's easy and we know how to do it," he said.

As for supporting the MDA, Serrago explained that muscular dystrophy mostly impacts children, which means a lot to him. But, he continued, the disease does not only impact the young.

"Its something that affects and can affect anybody and everybody," Serrago said.

He urged residents and visitors to come out Saturday for a good time.

"It's a good cause. It's a good fun day," Serrago said.
