It's been busy. We are delighted with the response as the library facility is used and enjoyed. Each week more titles are returning to the shelves so there are discoveries to be made.
We are in the touchup stage. The entire chiller cooling system is in the last stage of being tested and balanced. The better everything works together the more efficient the system will work so it's worth taking the time to do this fine-tuning.
When checking out materials, please check them out on the floor that you find the titles.
We have added postcards of Fort Myers Beach to our permanent display. Three groups can be found near the water fountains on the second floor and a fourth near the quiet room on that floor.
It's been fun setting up the aquarium in recent weeks. We've gone through a process in assuring that the water is balanced, and snails, oysters and blue crawford have taken care of keeping the contents clean. Fish have been added to the aquarium this week. They include Odessa Barb, Barb Rainbox, Catfish Zebra and Pleco Para.
The Cafe' in the Library Commons on the Third Floor is open Monday to Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Featuring coffee, espresso and lattes, made to order sandwiches & wraps, smoothies, fountain drinks, iced coffee and teas, cookies, bagels and assorted pastries.
Special catering menu is available for groups and meetings in the library's Community Room.
Near the bottom of our webpage at www.fmb.lib.fl.us is a link called "Florida Electronic Library." There are a variety of subjects and one of these is "health." Under this link, click on Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine and one is treated to 1,700 medical disorders and concepts. There is a search box that one can search for specifics, e.g. I put in "bruised ribs." Then one has the option to view text, get a PDF of the content and the commentary offers causes and symptoms, diagnosis and treatment, in addition to a host of other resources.
The Friends of the Library bookstore is open each day in the Library Commons. It's great to see that the location is being found and treasures located. The bookstore is open each day at 9:15 a.m. and prices are so minimal (e.g. hardcovers $2, paperbacks $1) that one is likely to find a variety worth the stop.
It's also a pleasant place to volunteer. If you can spend four hours each week, talk with Manager Jim at 233-8447 to see about the possibility of spending time helping the store stay stocked and enjoying those who stop by.
Gifts to the Library are welcome. You've hopefully come to see that careful planning does yield wonderful results. The same is true when one looks forward to expanding services and options that will be available with the completion of the expansion. Gifts to the Beach Library during the month of February are matched. Include this article note along with your donation dropped off at the library or sent to 2755 Estero Blvd, Fort Myers Beach, FL 33931. Thanks for your investment.
When we are closed a recorder gives the hours we are open. When open, we answer the phone in person. Hours are Monday & Wednesday 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9 to 5, and Saturday 9 to 4. All gates close when the library closes.
