To the editor:
Volunteerism focuses on the welfare of others and improving their quality of life. No financial gain or recognition is expected. This describes Harry Gottlieb's participation on the Estero Bay Agency on Bay Management.
EBABM is an advisory committee to the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council. It was formed in 1996 to assess and make recommendations on land uses, natural systems, environmental protection and mitigation tools in the Estero Bay watershed. The agency includes delegates from Lee and Collier Counties, Department of Environmental Protection, Florida Gulf Coast University, Federal Agencies and environmental, recreation and conservation groups.
Harry Gottlieb is a charter member of EBABM who was selected to represent property owners in the Town of Fort Myers Beach. Harry Gottlieb has been a dedicated and active member of EBABM for over 16 years. He knows what Estero Bay was like when he and his wife Jean arrived on the Island in 1955 and has worked to protect and restore the waters surrounding our island paradise.
Harry resigned his position at this week's EBABM meeting. His fellow committee members will honor him with a proclamation. Harry, thank you for your many years of service to Fort Myers Beach. You have helped make our Island and its surrounding waters a better place for all of us to live and play.
