2013 Muscle Walk & Ride

The Muscular Dystrophy Association invites to community to its Muscle Walk & Ride to be held Jan. 19 at Hammond Stadium.

The walk and ride will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at Hammond Stadium, 14100 Six Mile Cypress Parkway, Fort Myers.

10th annual Jim Perno Muscle Ride

Fort Myers and Naples Harley-Davidson are teaming up to sponsor the 10th annual Jim Perno Muscle Ride on Saturday, Jan. 19. This year's event is a "Scrabble Run" where riders will pick up letters at each stop and make a "word" using their seven letters at the last stop location. Words will be scored and top scorers will be listed on the official scoreboard. The event will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association in their its to seek the causes of, and effective treatments for, neuromuscular diseases. Registration will take place the morning of the event from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Fort Myers Harley-Davidson and 9 to 10:00 a.m. at Naples Harley-Davidson. The Fort Myers group will leave at 10:30 a.m. The Naples group will depart at 10 a.m. A complimentary breakfast will be served at each location during the time of registration. Individual riders can sign up at either store for a donation of $25 per rider and $15 for passengers.

Lifeline Family Center benefit

to feature Pam Tebow

Pam Tebow, mother of Heisman Trophy winner and New York Jets Quarterback Tim Tebow, will speak at the Lifeline Family Center Annual Benefit on March 21 at 6:30 pm at McGregor Baptist Church, 3750 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers. She will relate her life experiences as a mother, a missionary and teacher.

The fund raiser supports the mission of Lifeline Family Center; a privately funded organization dedicated to providing hope for young women in unplanned pregnancies by offering a two-year residential program in a safe and secure Christian home. The goal of Lifeline Family Center is to enable young women to redirect their lives by breaking the cycle of poverty, abuse and neglect.

Tickets are $70 per person or $400 for a table of eight. Sponsorships that include a VIP reception with Pam Tebow are available. For more information call Lifeline Family Center at (239)242-7238.

Taste Of Pine Island

The Kiwanis Club of Greater Pine Island's Taste Of Pine Island will now feeature two full days of live music, fun, food and drink.

The event is set for Jan. 26 from 11 a.m -6 p.m. and Jan. 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Phillips Park, 5675 Sesame Drive, Bokeelia The event will feature 100 arts and craft and 15 food vendors. Annual Membership fee is $30 for Cape Coral residents and $45 for non-residents. This includes membership to both Lake Kennedy and the Tony Rotino Senior Centers.

Exercise Classes

Seniorcise Class: Wednesday and Friday. 9:30 to 10:30 a.m Cost $4, members; $8, non-member. Certified Aerobics Instructor Monica Jipson: This class is designed for the senior who enjoys keeping active and is looking for a fun time while getting all the benefits of a workout.

Stretch and Tone Class: Tuesday and Thursday. 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. Cost $50/yearly $72/6 months; $120 for yearly (One must be a member to attend this class) Instructor Sharon Swanson R.N. Slimnastics at the Tony Rotino Senior Center is geared toward the active, mature adult.

Zumba: Tuesday and Thursday 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Cost $5 per class. The first class is free! This dynamic aerobic workout fuses Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to tone to sculpt your body while burning fat!

Tai Chi/Qi-gong for Osterperosis Class: Monday and Friday, 11 a.m. to noon. $7 for members, $11 for non-members.

Wine & Food Fest

The SWFL Wine & Food Fest 2013, Lee County's largest fundraising event to benefit local children's charities will be held Feb. 22 and 23, at Miromar Lakes Beach & Golf Club, 10160 Miromar Lakes Blvd. E., Fort Myers from noo-4p.m.

For the fifth consecutive year, Northern Trust will serve as the event's title sponsor, and Miromar Lakes will continue as the venue for the Saturday afternoon Grand Tasting and Live Auction.

Last year's Wine Fest auction netted $2 million, surpassing its own previous record net total of $1.6 million and making it Lee County's all-time most successful fundraising event.

The Southwest Florida Wine & Food Fest is a two-day event that begins with chef/vintner dinners in private homes throughout Southwest Florida on Feb. 22, and concludes with a Grand Tasting and Auction the following day, Feb. 23.

The Grand Tasting features gastronomic delights from more than a dozen of the region's finest chefs along with signature wines from California, Oregon and other popular European wine regions.

Choral workshop and masterclass

Dr. James Jordan, one of the most influential choral conductors and educators in America, will lead a choral workshop and masterclass for singers and directors in southwest Florida on Saturday, Jan. 19

The workshop, sponsored by the Fort Myers Symphonic Mastersingers, is scheduled from 9 a.m to 3 pm at First Presbyterian Church in Bonita Springs.

Dr. Jordan has written more than 25 books covering rehearsal and teaching pedagogy, conducting technique and the spirituality of music making.

His books, DVDs and recordings have brought about far-reaching educational and philosophical changes, not only in choral music, but in the worlds of choral conducting, wind conducting, piano, and music teaching.

During the morning session, Dr. Jordan will work with participants on vocal techniques and musicianship. Music used will be "He Watching Over Israel" and "And Then Shall Your Light Break Forth" from Mendelssohn's Elijah. Music will be provided.

Participants are invited to stay for the afternoon session where Dr. Jordan will work with the Greenwave Singers of Fort Myers High School and the Mastersingers.

Farmer's Market

The Cape Coral Farmers' Market continues Saturday running each week through May 11, 2013,

Produce is the core of the market but vendors also offer gulf-fresh seafood, Pine Island clams, home-made pickles, guacamole, fresh bakery items from breads to cupcakes to strudel and more,

More than 70 vendors are taking part this year.

The market is open each Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Club Square in downtown Cape Coral, at Southeast 47th Terrace and Southeast 10th Place. Admission and parking are free.

On the first and third Saturday of the month there also is an antique and craft market featuring another 30 or so vendors.
