The very longtime-and-local, talented musician Mike Rogers, along with Soul Funk Unity, is proud to announce the release of his latest album, titled "Sweet Thang." A mix of pure soul, blues and funky fresh, hip-hoppin', R-and-B-boppin' beats, Sweet Thang is a 14-track album that'll put anyone in a cool, mellow, vibin' mood.

"This album is a series of songs about letting go, loneliness, awakening, romance, spirituality, sexuality and sensuality," said the creative multi-instrumentalist. "The songs were written and recorded over the span of a year in many different locations around Southwest Florida no studios, just homes; bedrooms, garages and kitchens, so there is an earthy, raw appeal to the music, giving it a lift and freedom in its grooves."

As any truly heartfelt album put forth by hard-working musicians, inspiration and dedication oozes from the notes comprised within Sweet Thang.

Sweet Thang is Mike Rogers' latest musical project, comprised of funk, soul, love and devotion.

"The inspiration for this album is moving forward, letting go of the past and trusting your instincts. It is romantic, it is grooving, and most of all, it is honest and soulful," Mike said. "I just do what I do and am not interested in getting rich. I just want to share the light that is within us all and be of service to the listener's ear."

As you progress through his latest album, you'll hear fantastic musical arrangements that's got enough funk and soul to get even the biggest of couch potatoes on their feet to move and groove with the beats.

"The sound of this album is spontaneous and raw, reminiscent of '70s and '80s soul of Prince, Al Green and Marvin Gaye and gathering influences from the new funk of Maroon 5 and Lenny Kravitz," Mike said. "Instrumentally, I played all of the instruments, except on a few tracks. For instance, special guests on the song 'Sweet Thang' are Mike Brophy on drums, Gregory Sallen on B3, and Jennifer Mazziotti on tenor sax."

Living in an age where people rarely buy entire, physical albums anymore, relying more on the age of electronics and single-track downloads, Mike just wants to encourage music-lovers to check out his latest creation and to feel the love, soul, dedication and grooves he put into the project.

"All I want to express with my music is my feelings. I think it's the purpose, to show images, landscapes, love, beauty, delight and sensual bliss. In an age when nobody is buying full albums anymore, I just want to create from the heart and soul, and not judge anything that came out while recording," he said. "I just want people who listen to Sweet Thang to be inspired to keep on keeping on, and to trust your instincts. This project is called Soul Funk Unity because it's the balance of hard-hitting, grinding funk and the deep, rich depth of soul that intrigues me the most. When they come together, it is bliss, it is positive and it is passionate."

As Mixy Zaitlik, a local music-lover, recently stated about Mike's latest album:?"His new album is wonderful. The powerful songs and lyrics combined with his fabulous voice speak to my soul. My way of relaxing is to sit quietly, with a glass of wine, and let his voice fill the air. I am so moved by his music"

"I'm looking forward to playing this material live, and sharing more music with everyone in 2013. This album is the first of many to be released this year," Mike concluded.
