Beach community asked to dine out for Bambi’s sake Tuesday

Shoals Restaurant and Wine Bar hosts first Bambi fund-raiser

November 5, 2012
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

We need your support," said Cindi D'Andrea, representative of the Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce. "Please come to Shoals tomorrow night, Nov. 6, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., for the "Bambi Night" fund-raiser! We are just $5,000 away from sending our new "Bambi" to be transformed into a beach welcome center and we need your help! Ten percent of the food and beverage sales will be donated to the cause that day."

Beach restaurants have been stepping up to help the Greater Fort Myers Beach Area Chamber of Commerce raise funds for tourist information centers. Shoals Restaurant and Wine Bar and the Sandy Butler Market, 17650 San Carlos Blvd., will hold the first Bambi fund-raiser, aptly named "Vote for Bambi," Tuesday. Ten percent of food and beverage sales between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. that day will go toward the purchase of two Airstream Bambi travel trailers, which will be converted into mobile visitor information centers. These mobile chambers will enable the chamber to assist visitors in discovering our local restaurants, attractions, and accommodations.

"Bambi" is the name of a 16-foot-long classic Airstream travel trailer. The Bambi Trailers will be painted with scenes of Fort Myers Beach to make them fun and attract attention.

Multiple fund-raisers are being held for the Fort Myers Beach Chamber Foundation, to afford a Bambi, to boost our local economy to visitors of the island. The first fund-raiser will take place at Shoals Restaurant and Wine Bar, Tuesday, Nov. 6, all day, where 10 percent of proceeds will be donated to the Bambi fund.

Parrot Key Caribbean Grill will host the second "Bambi Night" Tuesday, Nov. 13. Ten percent of the food and beverage sales will be donated to the cause.

Members of the community are invited to come out on both nights in support of program. "We are very close to being able to get our first mobile visitor information center in place," said Chamber President Bud Nocera. "We invite everyone on the beach to join for dinner on our Bambi Nights to get us over the top."
