A Vacation for Veterans family has been selected to be the guest of the YPN Greater Fort Myers Chapter of the REALTOR Association of Greater Fort Myers and the Beach for a family vacation in Southwest Florida.
Vacations for Veterans seek to provide Purple Heart Medal recipients, from the Iraq and Afghanistan Campaigns, with a week of relaxation including their families. The family chosen by Vacations for Veterans for this trip includes the Purple Heart recipient, his spouse and two children (ages 8 and 9). They will be traveling to Fort Myers from Colorado with funds provided by the Association's golf benefit and will be participating in some of the activities planned for the YPN Fun in the Sun Weekend on Aug. 24-25, 2012.
On Friday, Aug. 24, The Miracle Baseball Game at Hammond Stadium kicks off the weekend festivities when the Fort Myers Miracle takes on the Palm Beach Cardinals. The Miracle will donate $2.50 to Vacations for Veterans from every ticket package sold so the public is encouraged to come out and cheer for The Miracle and our Vacations for Veterans family. The ticket package costs $12 and includes a general admission ticket to Friday's game, a hot dog and soda. Saturday, a Beach Bash will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Holiday Inn at Fort Myers Beach. Tickets for the weekend event can be purchased by calling 936-3537 (ext. 226) or the ticket package can be purchased in front of the ticket office at Hammond Stadium.
"Purple Heart recipients have given their all for this country, and in many cases, their heroic efforts have resulted in permanent physical injuries that they must live with for the rest of their lives", said Kevin Pickett, Co-Chair of YPN Greater Fort Myers Chapter. "We hope that by sponsoring this family for a week of relaxation that we can give back just a little bit of what has been given to our country by their service. In addition to enjoying time at Fort Myers Beach, the family will travel to Disney World in Orlando."
"Through this sponsorship, we hope to show our support to this Purple Heart recipient and to the entire military community that serves our nation", said Marion Briggs, President of the Association. "Because our members assist home buyers daily throughout Southwest Florida, we wanted to give something back of our community to a member of the military that has given so much to us."
The REALTOR Association of Greater Fort Myers and the Beach, Inc. was founded 87 years ago. The Association, also known as CORE (Community of REALTOR Excellence), has more than 4,000 members.
