It was a great day for a parade. The weather was all you could ask for both the morning parade and the evening's feature event the fireworks.
On behalf of the Fort Myers Beach Civic Association, I would like to thank all the folks that took time to decorate their entry in the parade and took time out of their day to enter in the parade and put on a great show for the spectators along the parade route.
I would also like to thank this year's Parade Marshall, former Mayor Garr Reynolds along with his wife Reggie, for taking time out of their day to be a part of the parade.
Lets also give a big thanks to the parade judges for giving of their time and for the difficult time they had in picking the winners of the various categories from the many great entries in the parade. They are Leroy Hommerding, Kathy Van Selow, Bruce Cermak, Valerie Van Selow and Vicki Jones.
We not forget to thank all of the many wonderful folks who lined the parade route to watch, enjoy and cheer for the many entries in the parade. You are what make the parade worthwhile. It made for a lot of fun watching all the jockeying for position to catch the beads, candy and other items that were tossed to the crowd and to see who made the final grab to come away with the prize.
We cannot go without giving our sincere appreciation and thanks to the many businesses on the Beach that generously donated to the parade and without whose support there would not be a parade. Please stop in and tell these great folks thank you. Their support is sincerely appreciated.
They include the Fort Myers Beach Observer, Beach Bulletin, Winds, Mango Bay, Beached Whale, Doc Ford's, Mermaid Lounge, Valerie's, Surf Club, Yucatan, Pink Shell Resort, Charlie's Boathouse Grill and DiamondHead Beach Resort.
We also thank those businesses that contributed the many wonderful prizes that were awarded to the various parade entries. They are Sun Hardware, Key West Express, Dolphin Inn, Silver Sands Resort, Matanzas Inn, Junkanoo, Local Color, Pier Peddler, Gifts by the Sea, Munch Box, Birkenstock, Skye's Mexican Restaurant, Annette's Book Nook, Tuckaway Bagel and Wafel Caf, Paul at Island Hair, Chuck's Last Stop, Fish House Restaurant and the Beach Theatre.
And a very special thank you to the volunteers who worked many hours behind the scenes to put it all together. You all did a super job, and it could not have been done without you.
While everyone missed the Semmer family who have unselfishly put on the fireworks for the past 20-some years, I have to give credit to the Town staff that picked up the challenge of taking over where the Semmer family left off. The standard left behind by the Semmer Family was set very high, and they did a great job of carrying on the fireworks tradition with a great fireworks show. Congratulations for a job well done.
