Bartender arrested for false report of robbery

July 5, 2012
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

On Thursday, June 28, 2012, at approximately 9:33 p.m., the Lee County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an armed robbery at Tequila's Bar, 4546 Palm Beach Boulevard, Fort Myers. Witnesses at the scene said a black male entered the bar, pointed a gun at the bartender and demanded money. The man fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money and was last seen running behind neighboring businesses.

Due to the nature of the incident, detectives with the Lee County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Robbery Unit responded to the scene to investigate. They were advised by the owner of the business that the surveillance video system had been tampered with. Someone had attempted to disconnect the surveillance system by unplugging the monitors before the robbery took place.

Ashley Marie Harrison, (DOB: 12/13/1983) was working as a bartender the night of the robbery. Her statements were consistent with that of others present when the crime was committed. As detectives were conducting their investigation, Harrison was found to be in possession of Oxycodone without a prescription and was placed under arrest and transported to the Lee County Jail.

During an interview with Harrison she told detectives the robbery had not been committed by a stranger as she first reported but had actually been committed by a friend. She admitted she had a discussion with the friend about committing a robbery at Tequila's on the morning of the incident. She also stated she wanted to help her friend because she felt sorry for him. Based on her statement and information provided during the course of the investigation, detectives arrested Ashley Harrison on July 4, 2012 for making a false report to law enforcement. When Harrison was placed under arrest, she was in possession of less than 20g of marijuana and was charged with this as well.

An inmate photo and additional information is available by visiting the Sheriff's Office website at www.sheriffleefl.org and clicking on the Arrest Search button on the home page.
