Camp director apologizes and thanks supporters

June 20, 2012
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

To the editor:

I am compelled to apologize to the families affected by the abrupt closing of the VIP Eco-Arts Summer Camp. I believe that there was a lack of clear and concise communication that led to its early demise.

I truly appreciate the support from all who uplifted me during my work at The VIP Afterschool Program for the past two years. My mission is and will always be to be there for ALL of you.

I wanted to extend a special thank you to all of our supporters, including Annie, Brian, Carrie and Reverend Gabriella for their time and interest; Tre Gillette, who let us use the Tuckaway Cafe for our open house and has donated so many wonderful bagels; Al Durrett and his staff at the Fish Tale Marina, who donated over 30 t-shirts; Mary, Chris and Kirsten at the Calusa Nature Center; Joanne Semmer at The Ostego Bay Foundation; Ava Hinojosa and her staff at CROW; Bob Petcher and Melissa Schneider at the Beach Observer/Beach Bulletin; Missy Layfield and the Sand Paper staff; Dr. Leroy Hommerding and the staff at the Beach Library; and Father Don Nicholson and the incredible friends at St. Raphael's Episcopal Church.

You all stepped forward to lend yourselves to our camp, and I am forever grateful to know that you all tried to make a difference in these children's lives.
