Andale, Horses! Celebrating Cinco de Mayo and Derby Day on Fort Myers Beach

Saturday, May 5 marks not one but two big holidays/celebrations: Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby. Naturally, some of the greatest hot spots around town are hosting celebrational events right here on Fort Myers Beach. So, be sure to wear your Derby hats, shake some maracas, and have an all-around grand 'ol time!

Skye's Mexican Cuisine, comfortably nestled in the Santini Marina Plaza, will be hosting a Cinco de Mayo party Saturday, featuring live Spanish guitar music at 5 p.m., a live band at 9 p.m., and Mexican drink specials, dinner specials, tapas and party treats all evening long, beginning at 4 p.m. Be sure to try the restaurant's new sangrita, a bit like a Mexican bloody mary. It goes down smooth!

Parrot Key Caribbean Grill

The folks at Parrot Key will be hosting Cinco de Mayo and Kentucky Derby specials all day long Saturday, May 5, featuring $2 margaritas, Coronas and tequila shots. Frank "El Torino" will be entertaining the crowd from 7 to 10 p.m., and be sure to order a few tasty, hot and juicy fajitas.

All race fans can enjoy the Kentucky Derby on the establishment's big screens and savor $2 mint juleps, as well. It's a race for the roses!

Smokin' Oyster Brewery

Swing by Bay Walk in the afternoon, as S.O.B. will be celebrating both events that day with refreshing drink specials and live music with Dave Collaton all day from 2 to 10 p.m.

Big Game Waterfront Grill is also in the spirit of celebrating both big events/holidays with specials on Mexican drinks and cuisine all day, as well as showing the Kentucky Derby on the big screen.

Enjoy $2 margaritas, Coronas and tequila shots all day, as well as discounted tacos and burritos. While taking in the Kentucky Derby festivities, sip on $2 mint juleps while complimenting each other's Derby ensemble!

Nervous Nellie's will be hosting some very special Cinco de Mayo specials throughout the day, including Jose Cuervo promos and live entertainment on the bayfront dock. Later in the day, a big Kentucky Derby party will be held upstairs at Ugly's, where you can watch the most intense two minutes in sports history while enjoying food and drink specials.

The Cottage Bar and Grill

The Cottage will be hosting a Cinco de Mayo celebration Saturday, May 5, starting at 3 p.m., featuring pitchers of margaritas and authentic Mexican food; live music from Underground, from 3 to 8 p.m.; and live music from The New Vinyls, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Arrrrriba!

The Lani Kai

The Lani Kai will be hosting a Mexican buffet upstairs in the Island View Lounge that evening, from 5 to 10 p.m. For just $8.95, enjoy all of your Mexican favorites over and over again. The resort is also offering drink specials on Corona and margaritas throughout the day, from all of the bars on location upstairs and downstairs. And, as it's a Saturday, also enjoy live music throughout the day, with Doug Luther, from 6 to 10 p.m., and A200 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Bonita Bill's

What better place to catch some horses on the big screen than on the back bay, at Bonita Bill's? This waterside cafe will be showing the best two minutes in sports on the big screen.

Also, Peppermint Patty will be performing from 2 to 6 p.m. So, stop by for cold drinks, hot food and great times.
