New Chrysalis award category adds to the celebration

April 24, 2012
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

The Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau and the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce will host the third annual Celebration of Business & Tourism Chrysalis Awards Luncheon and Trade Show at the Harborside Event Center on May 9, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is in commemoration of National Travel & Tourism Week and also part of the VCB's year-round Team Tourism program, which recognizes the value of tourism and the community teamwork involved in maintaining and enhancing tourism as a major economic engine for the county.

This year's Chrysalis awards are projected to attract more than 400 attendees. At the luncheon, seven award recipients will be announced.

In addition to last year's six Chrysalis award categories, a seventh category of sustainability has been added. The sustainability award serves to honor those businesses and organizations in the community that have demonstrated significant efforts to create the right balance of social, economic and environmental resources to promote prosperity, while enhancing quality of life in efforts of establishing a healthy community. This award aims to recognize businesses using sustainability to improve the community and the industry.

More than 80 nominations were received for this year's Chrysalis awards. Nominees include area attractions, accommodations, retailers, educational institutions, non-profit organizations and a variety of local businesses in seven categories: Business Development, Eco-innovation, Sustainability, Cultural Achievement, Education, Sports, and Sales & Marketing. A panel of local business community leaders judges the nominations and selects one award recipient for each of the seven categories.

The event, where the awards will be announced, will feature a trade show from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the awards luncheon from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The cost to attend the event is $40. The cost to exhibit in the trade show is $175 for a booth, which includes two admission tickets. To register for trade show participation or information on sponsorship opportunities, visit the Events section on the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce's website at www.Fortmyers.org.
