During March, 11,844 people used the library in person. This was 3.5 percent higher than the same month last year.
People enjoy asking questions and that seems to be a consistent practice. Reference responded to 160 of those questions during the month--we calculate a question as one that requires one or more resources to be used in order to answer the question. We do not count directional inquiries such as where the bathroom is, where a particular business is located, what hours the Driver's License Bureau is open or the nearest vet.
The Friends of the Library have placed a tree near the interior of the library entrance. That tree has ornaments laying nearby on which one can share important points of discovery in your reading and research: jot down either a favorite author or a treasured book or both. Many enjoy knowing what others are finding interesting or stimulating and like to give new authors or titles a try. Check out the tree! Add to it too with your favorite author or title.
Construction activity continues forward. We are waiting for some ceiling material in the expansion still to arrive. A practice in recent years has been for some companies to not keep material in stock, and then fabricate it only after confirmed orders have arrived. This means that we are still waiting for some ceiling material. This extends our move into the expansion by a month. Instead of late May, contractors note it is likely we will move into the area by late June.
Frequently Checked Out
Mystery fiction titles continue to be among the most checked out categories during March in the collection. At the top of the list is "Lethal" by Sandra Brown (M BRO), followed by "Half-Past Dawn" by Richard Doetsch (M DOE), "The Look of Love" by Mary Jane Clark (M CLA) and "Private Games" by James Patterson (M PAT).
Non Fiction is topped by "The End of Wall Street" by Roger Lowenstein (332.642 LOW).
DVDs are popular and topping this category during March was "Jessie Stone. Death in Paradise" (M JES).
When we celebrate grand opening with the completion of construction near the end of this year, you will notice that we will continue to develop our print collection and expand options in audio. The addition of e-books and downable media will also a part of Audio Avenue. One hears that in some markets e-book reading is growing. While printed books still dominate the world of book readers, we are well aware of the diversity of approaches that readers utilize. The important thing is that we are reading--hopefully we'll explore with you both print and digital opportunities.
When we are closed, a recorder gives the hours of operation, either on 765-8162, or on 765-8163. Except for holidays, we are open Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9 to 5; and Saturday 9-1. We look forward to seeing you.
