“It’s going to be such a wonderful time for the whole family during our first Easter benefit,” said Beverly Bacon, events coordinator for
the Lani Kai.
Along with the all-ages egg hunt, which Beverly plans to stuff hundreds of eggs with candy, prizes and other fun items, the Lani Kai will host an employee bake sale, photos with the Easter Bunny, live music all day, raffles, prizes, 50/50s and more.
Lani Kai bartender Joe Harvey explains why the resort is hosting a benefit in his nephew’s honor.
“Back in August, my one-year-old nephew, Blake, was diagnosed with a form of cancer called a Wilms’ Tumor,” he said. “At the age of 1, he had to have a kidney removed and undergo six months of chemo-therapy.”
Now that little Blake has gone to his six-month check-up and found cancer-free, Joe just wants Blake’s family to come down and vacation, celebrating a cancer-free diagnosis and enjoy a big sigh of relief with each other.
“I have a five-year-old and 10-year old niece, Blake’s two sisters. My thing is to raise a little bit of money for Blake and his family to have a nice little weekend vacation as a celebration of the good news,” Joe said. “They live in Ohio. The Lani Kai and I are taking care of their lodging while they’re here. But, if we can get their airfare taken care of for their trip down, to just get away for the weekend, that’s what we’re shooting for.”
Blake and his family will be coming down Friday, the day before the Easter egg hunt, so you know he and his siblings will be participating.
“He was one-year-old and went through more than a grown man goes through. We’re so proud of him and very optimistic, looking forward to a full recovery,” Joe said.
All of the community is invited to attend and join in. For information on the bake sale or to lend a helping hand, call the resort at 463-3111.
Celebrating a cancer-free six-month check-up, two-year-old Blake Gaulden, his parents Joni and Michael, and sisters Jada and Farrah are visiting family on Fort Myers Beach this weekend.
