Rockin' the Mullet: Annual Beach Pub mullet toss a success

May 27, 2010

Literally hundreds of beach locals and visitors stopped by the Beach Pub's annual mullet toss to show their support for a worthy cause Sunday.

Mullet flew high in the air early that afternoon, with three winners taking home trophies in the man, woman and child division (man and woman divisions tying for distance the fish were thrown).

Local music sensations Steve "the Lucky Dog Lutke," the duo Elijah (Daizy Aimless and John Hyatt) and Joel rocked the fund-raising crowd throughout the day.

"A big thank you to all of our sponsors, all of our supporters, and all of you," said Lou Caleca, co-owner of the Beach Pub, along with Tim Miller. "With you, none of this could have happened."

Several local businesses showed their support through raffle and prize donations that were awarded throughout the benefit, including SeaTrek Fishing Charters, the Shamrock Irish Pub, Miner's Bar and Grill, the Beached Whale, the Yucatan Beach Stand, Burgers on the Beach, Gulfshore Grill and The Cottage, Smokin' Oyster Brewery, Bonita Bill's, Pete's Timeout, Matanzas Inn and Restaurant and others.

It may have been a hot summer day, but that didn't stop anyone from staying and supporting the benefit especially with little local cutie Michelle keeping everyone cool with her chilled water spray bottle!

Delicious and hot food kept the crowd's stomachs satisfied with moist and flavorfut ham and pineapple, fresh pasta salad, baked beans and to-die-for crab-stuffed jalapenos, all for just a minimal donation to the cause and homemade by Dina, Lou's wife, and others.

"What a great benefit," Rev. Nadine said. "This is such a great community. Everyone is winning all of these wonderful prizes right now, but at the end of the day, the VIP kid's after-school program is the big winner."
