Richard L. Kersten, 74, who was born June 19, 1934, in Wittenberg, Wisconsin and lived on Fort Myers Beach the past 23 years, passed away June 5 after a long illness.
Kersten attended school in Wittenberg and graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin/Milwaukee. He was a Korean War veteran serving with the U.S. Marines. He and his brother purchased the Kersten Bros. Lumber Co. from their dad and uncle in 1965. He is survived by his wife Patricia of 49 years; son, Richard II of Wausau, Wis.; daughter, Tiffany Katcho of Fort Myers Beach; sisters, Nancy Scarpino, Maudell Hansen, Juddie Payne; brothers, Philip Kersten, Howard Crick, R.J. Crick; and grandson, Benny Dakins.
Donations in lieu to Hope Hospice. Fort Myers Memorial Gardens are in charge of arrangements. A service will be on Richard's birthday, June 19.
