Beach picnic tips and places

May 28, 2009
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer
Nothing makes summer more relaxing – and not to mention fun, than taking in an outdoor picnic. Southwest Florida is brimming with great places to chill out and get some tasty grub. One such place is Lynn Hall Park, located on Fort Myers Beach. Lynn Hall Park has a few shaded pavilions available for those hot days, picnic tables and barbecue grills. Bathrooms and a playground also are on site. The pavilions are available for free public use; however, they are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Feel like venturing a little further south down the Beach? Lovers Key State Park also is a perfect spot for a picnic. Like Lynn Hall Park, the pavilions at Lovers Key need no reservations or fees and are on a first-come, first-serve basis. The park offers additional fun with kayak bike rentals, which help accent the spectacular scenery at the park. If a picnic on the beach isn’t your idea of fun, you may want to check out Lakes Park, located just minutes from the Beach. The use of a Lakes Park’s pavilion requires a fee, but there are walking and biking trails on site as well. Also, bike and kayak rentals are available, as the park’s name suggests, and there are plenty of lakeside views, a playground and even a small beach. No matter where you decide to take your picnic, there are some basic supplies that you will want to consider taking along on the trip. Lynn Hall Park is located at 50 Estero Blvd. For more information on Lynn Hall Park, visit www.ecotrail.com/lynn_hall.htm. Lover’s Key State Park is located at 8700 Estero Blvd. For more information on Lovers Key State Park, call 436-4588 or visit www.florida stateparks.org. Lakes Park is located at 7330 Gladiolus Dr. For more information on Lakes Park, visit www.leeparks. org or call 432-2000.
