Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

Residents who are interested in learning more about Parkinson's disease are invited to attend the 6th Annual Parkinson's Symposium, a special presentation from the Shell Point Academy. The symposium will be on Friday, Feb. 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Village Church Auditorium on the Island.

"Research on Parkinson's is extremely important in determining how to improve the quality of life and daily living for individuals who are affected by this disease," said Teri Kollath, Manager of Academy and Volunteer Services. "This presentation will offer a wealth of insight into how this disease works and ways to help manage it."

The Symposium will feature five experienced speakers that will cover topics such as how medications affect this disease, the criteria for DBS surgery, how voice enhances movement, ways to improve daily living activities and more. The scheduled speakers include Dr. Carlos Singer, MD; Kevin O'Neil, MD, FACP; Mary Spremulli, MA, CCC-SLP; Jeanne Csuy, PT, GCS; and Dan McGovern, Movement Therapist.

To attend the Parkinson's Symposium, please RSVP to Jeanne Csuy at the Parkinson's Outreach Center by calling 239-931-8838. The cost will be $20, which includes registration, a continental breakfast and lunch.
