Beverly,

The flip side of all your nice sounding sales pitch is that (1) The Fairtax just can't work. Your 23% rate ignores massive evasion at such high rates, and the plan to have the federal government tax state and local government operations is inappropriate if not unconstitutional under our constitutional Republic form of government. Correct the rate for those two facts, and the resulting exclusive rate would be over 60%. Not going to work!

In addition, the Fairtax scheme throws seniors under the bus by forcing them to resume paying for their retirement benefits with their sales tax dollars, and double taxing their after tax savings they depend on. The Fairtax will destroy the current SS plan as well as severely impacting the new housing market. Federal taxes have no collateral value! Can you put 50% down for a mortgage insurance free homeloan?

The prebate is in reality a $600 billion annual cash grant entitlement which we just can't stand for.
